Engineers from across the UK came together in the North East to discuss new technology and legislation regarding Joint Integrity at an information and training session led by the Academy of Joint Integrity and TTE.

The free Joint Integrity Seminar was attended by more than 20 engineers who are involved in or have responsibility for Flange Assembly, integrity issues and maintenance in the power and process sector.

The seminar focused on the importance of joint integrity training, latest integrity standards, new gasket technology as a reactive maintenance tool for corroded flanges and awareness of the risks relating to mechanical sources of ignition in hazardous areas.

Following the demonstration was a question and answer session that provided the opportunity for individuals to discuss issues with TTE and Academy engineers.

The Academy of Joint Integrity, which is part of The Flexitallic Group, provides accredited, bespoke and open courses covering all aspects of joint integrity.

A close relationship has been formed between the Academy of Joint Integrity and TTE to enhance the range of skills development programmes for engineers and technicians working or living in the North East, using events such as this free to attend seminar.

Its open and accessible training is available for individuals or teams of engineers and can be delivered on site or at one of the Academy’s dedicated training venues, which includes the excellent facilities at TTE.

The training utilises a specialist flange joint assembly rig known as the Flexitallic Sustainable Training Unit (FSTU), which enables the user to tighten a bolted joint and see the impact of tightening procedures, on-screen, through the innovative load monitoring software. This gives the best mix of practical hands-on training and classroom learning.

Alex Lattimer, Training Director for The Academy of Joint Integrity, said: ‘These seminars demonstrate the importance, even for experienced engineers, to update knowledge of techniques, competencies and legislation surrounding Joint Integrity. In addition, they provide a useful forum for engineers with similar responsibilities to share best practice and discuss issues with our experienced Joint Integrity expert.’

John Taylor, TTE Group Business Development Manager, said: ‘The seminar proved to be very successful and was well attended by North East engineers who were able to enhance their knowledge and understanding. The FSTU was particularly useful when explaining bolt correction procedures, and provided a clear and easy to understand demonstration.’
