Flowserve First Valve Manufacturer To Achieve Testing Laboratory Accreditation

Flowserve Flow Control UK has become the first valve company to achieve formal accreditation to ISO 17025 as a testing laboratory by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). The UKAS award, which encompasses Flowserve’s plants in Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill, was in direct response to customer requirements and covers hydrostatic, pneumatic, torque and anti-static testing and visual examination to a range of internationally-recognised standards and follows an intensive, three-month evaluation process. In addition, Flowserve’s testing and inspection personnel are qualified and certificated to BS EN 473. With Flowserve’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System (which the company has held for over 20 years), principal QMS enhancements relate to calibration inspection records, which are now traceable back to UKAS accredited calibration laboratories, fully traceable test equipment and more detailed final certification. These enhancements now allow Flowserve Flow Control to offer certification comparable to any other similar accredited testing laboratory’s. Commenting Nick Green, General Manager, said: "This recognition of our investment in quality management means that we are able to reduce the certification costs associated with using external laboratories. In addition eliminating transportation delays will enable us to upgrade our customer delivery performance." Initially, Flowserve will focus its certification activity on the valves produced at its Sussex manufacturing facilities and will evaluate future expansion to encompass other valve types produced by sister companies in its Flow Control Division, as well as external manufacturers.
