Freudenberg Sealing Technologies Ltd: The Right Sealing System
Portfolio of Premium Clamp Seals
Installation Situation of a Clamp Seal in a Mixer
Whether it is mixers, valves or filling machines; it might seem like connectors and fittings are only subordinate parts in a big processing plant. Nevertheless, in order to guarantee a safe and secure production, it is important that these pipe connections are sealed securely as well. Especially in the process industry with its high purity and hygiene requirements clamp seals are the preferred solution for many applications.
Clamp seals – a short explanation
Clamp seals are static sealing elements that are used for sealing flange connections in continuously operated plants. In most cases these clamp seals are standardized according to DIN 32676 (inch dimensions) or ISO 2852 (metric dimensions). As most of the applications within a processing plant are connected with pipes, the range of application areas is wide. Due to their symmetrical geometry, clamp seals do not need to be installed with a particular orientation and can thus be mounted and dismantled very easily.
Challenges for clamp seals in process industry applications
Within the various areas of the process industry, clamp seals are challenged in many different ways. Especially in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical segments, the industry- and country-specific legal regulations, such as FDA, EU (Reg.) 1935/2004, GB 4806, GB 9685 or USP Class VI as well as the Hygienic Design Standards are very important. These requirements should guarantee a secure and hygienic production as well as a high-quality end product for the consumer. Another big influence factor is the application itself. This includes not only temperature and pressure, but also regular cleaning cycles with CIP/SIP cleaning agents. Not to forget the aqueous, abrasive, acidic and powdery product media.
Freudenberg Sealing Technologies as your sealing partner
Freudenberg Sealing Technologies offers a wide portfolio of high-performance clamp seals “made in Europe” for the demanding requirements of the process industry. The portfolio includes five approved materials: EPDM (black), EPDM (white), Fluoroprene® XP (light blue), VMQ (transparent) peroxide cross-linked and VMQ (transparent) platinum cross-linked. They all offer a range of advantages, such as good elasticity, easy assembly, high operating performance, resistance to the used process and cleaning media, compliance with the relevant legal regulations and high purity standards. Another highlight is the reusability after opening the joint. Thanks to an extensive material and engineering expertise, Freudenberg Sealing Technologies offers not only standardized dimensions according to DIN 32676 or ISO 2852, but also close to norm dimensions for your individual operating conditions. This can for example be a version with truncated lip or without any outer lip.
