Hot Spot IOGP JIS Material Digital Passport (MDP) Specification Public Review

What is it?

The attached Hot Spot BV002693 alerted members to the IOGP JIS Material Digital Passport project for equipment suppliers into the oil and gas industry. This initiative is primarily intended to provide a tool to combat material and equipment fraud in the industry. The first draft of this new specification is now available for public review and can be found by following this link New MDP specification available for public review - JIS01: MDP (jis01-mdp.org).

The linked webpage also includes a template to allow members to submit their comments on this proposal direct to IOGP. The deadline for comment submission is 26/2/2024.

Why is it Important?

The IOGP Joint Industry Sprint MDP project is intended to implement a digital platform of asset information containing material data down to the level of the major traceable components of a valve. It is envisaged that this would include technical information, specification sheets, certificates of conformity and even the carbon footprint, so it is important that the technology platform is developed to benefit all of the stakeholders in the supply chain.
There is little doubt that this information will be useful throughout the supply chain, but it is also important that the processes used to populate the system do not result in significant costs and duplication throughout the various stages that need to input the data.

If you manufacture material or products for IOGP members it is recommended that you review the specification and comment as part of the IOGP public review process to ensure that the specification adequately considers the valve supplier’s perspective.
