BVAA: Hot Spot - Shape the Future of UK Product Safety - Call for Evidence
What is it?
Now that the UK has left the European Union the Government is calling for input from manufacturers and trade bodies to understand their views on potential changes in the future regulatory environment. The UK Government is requesting your answers to 25 specific questions covering 5 main areas of concern to help them shape the future regulatory environment, as follows:
▪ Where should product safety regulation be strengthened or improved?
▪ Should regulation be targeted more at the product or the manufacturer’s systems
▪ What areas of the current regulatory framework could the UK use to create more opportunities for UK innovation and UK manufacturing?
▪ How well is the conformity assessment system working?
▪ What role should voluntary standards play in product safety?
The call for evidence provides further information on line and requests responses by following a link: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/uk-product-safety-review-call-for-evidence.
The BVAA request that members copy their response to the questions to the secretariat to allow us to provide a collective industry view in our submission as your trade association. We would be grateful if you could complete this before 27-5-21 to also allow sufficient time for the BVAA to respond.
Why is it Important?
This consultation exercise is your opportunity to shape the UK’s long-term approach to future regulations now that we are free to determine our own direction as a sovereign nation with respect to legislation that directly applies to our industry.
Regardless of whether you feel that we should continue to mirror EU regulation to ensure our continued low cost access to the European market, or you favour a more relaxed regulatory environment to potentially reduce costs and allow us to compete in more distant developing markets; this is your opportunity to influence the change process. The BVAA recommend that you take advantage of it and let the UK Government have your input.
Continuous Improvement
