Hot Spot EN 19:2023 Proposed as UK Designated Standard
What is it?
The UK Government has announced that EN19:2023 Marking of metallic valves is proposed to become a UK Designated Standard. This came into effect on 12/04/25, if no valid objections were received, for more detailed information on this batch of UK designated standards a link was provided: Proposal to Amend 0113/25: Designated Standards - Pressure Equipment.
It may also be of interest to some members that the proposal also includes EN 13480-3 Metallic piping-design and calculation amongst the other standards referenced.
Why is it Important?
EN19 is an important standard because it is the most widely used standard for nameplate requirements for metallic industrial valves to ensure conformance with UK and European regulations.
The EU implemented EN 19:2023 as a Harmonised Standard earlier in this year, confirming that compliance with this latest edition allows members to presume nameplate conformity with the requirements of the PED. When EN 19:2023 also becomes a UK Designated Standard, compliance will allow members to also presume conformity with the requirements of the PE(S)R and UKCA marking.
BVAA members are recommended to review their nameplate details because there are some significant differences between EN19:2016 and EN19:2023. EN19:2016 will be removed from publication by CEN on 31/07/26, it will be necessary to comply with EN19:2023 to maintain conformance with CE and UKCA marking requirements after this date.
Supersedes
EN19:2016 will be withdrawn on 31/07/26 and replaced by EN19:2023 as an EN Harmonised and UK Designated Standard after this date.
