Environmental and Health & Safety accreditation for Valve specialist Orseal
Demonstrating their proactive approach to environmental performance and to staff health and safety, Orseal are now accredited to both ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. Following the company’s rapid transition to the latest version of ISO 9001:2015, these new accreditations complete Orseal’s commitment to the highest standards of Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental policies.
ISO 14001 is the internationally-agreed Standard setting out the requirements for an environmental management system, helping organisations to manage, control and improve their environmental performance. Companies following the Standard must consider all environmental issues relevant to their operations, such as air pollution, water and sewage, waste management, soil contamination, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and resource use and efficiency. ISO 14001 has been revised recently, with an emphasis on environmental management within the strategic planning process, greater input from leadership and a focus on proactive environmental initiatives.
A single set of international requirements to help protect workers, ISO 45001 is the world’s first international Standard for health and safety, developed by experts from 69 countries in liaison with key organisations including the International Labour Organisation, the International Trades Union Confederation and the International Organisation of Employees. As a framework to increase safety and reduce workplace risks, the Standard is designed to improve health and well-being at work, and was developed to mitigate factors that can cause irreparable harm to both employees and to businesses. Dennis Crompton, managing director at Orseal, explains the benefits of going through the assessment and accreditation process for these two Standards,
“As a company with customers worldwide and a global supply chain, Orseal’s reputation for safety – whether at our premises or on-site with customers - is of paramount importance and we need to demonstrate our credentials in a clear and consistent way. Certification – to the latest occupational health and safety guidelines and standards available – provides unequivocal evidence of our commitment to the safety and well-being of staff and visitors, alike.
Achieving the Environmental Standard has been equally important to us. A strategic focus on the efficient use of resources and on waste reduction gives us a competitive advantage, while also enhancing Orseal’s reputation with stakeholders both within the company and externally.”
