BVAA Hot Spot EN1515-4:2021 Selection of Bolting for PED Equipment Published
What is it?
EN 1515-4 2021 has been published and is available to purchase. This standard has been developed by CEN / TC74, shadowed by BSI committee PSE 015, and covers the selection of flange bolting for pressure equipment subject to the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU. EN 1515-4 specifies standards and additional requirements for dimensions, material properties and technical conditions of delivery for bolting. It covers the commonly used bolting types and material combinations giving guidance on the most common bolting application areas, covering all PN and Class pressure designations and temperatures from -200°C - 600°C.
The standard makes reference to EN and ISO bolting materials for application to the PED category I and above. However, it also references some BS, NF and DIN standards for applications classified as SEP under paragraph 3 Article 4 of the PED. It does not cover ASTM specifications.
Why is it Important?
The main changes compared to the previous EN 1515-4:2009 edition of the standard are as follows:
▪ Explanation of starting material requirements in accordance with EN 10269:2013
▪ Separate requirements for bolting not used in EN 10269:2013 have been included
▪ Amended temperature ranges and material groups
▪ Option for traceability by lot identification marking included
▪ Requirements for the prevention of brittle fracture have been updated
EN 1515-4:2021 provides a presumption of conformity to the essential safety requirements of the PED and includes an Annex ZA.
The standard has also been published as BS EN 1515-4:2021 with a UK national foreward, meaning that it is intended to be used to presume conformity with the requirements of the UKCA marking legislation for products to be placed on the market in Great Britain.
Supersedes
This standard supersedes BS EN 1515-4:2009 which is withdrawn.
