IOGP JIP33 S-611 Gate Valve Specification Re-Launched for Review
What is it?
The IOGP JIP33 specification S-611 for gate valves was first issued in May 2019. It is now undergoing a review and is being made available for a second round of user feedback review with a closing date of 16-09-2022.
The purpose of this user feedback review is to receive assessments of the effectiveness of the specifications in furthering the IOGP JIP33 stated goals of improving procurement and delivery of equipment for the oil and gas industry. This first step in the update and revision of the specifications is a chance for purchasers and suppliers to comment on how the current specification requirements can be improved. During the revision process, the document will be updated in accordance with the minimum common set of specification requirements for the procurement of Gate Valves to API Standard 600, Fourteenth Edition, and API Standard 603, Ninth Edition 2018, for application in the petroleum and natural gas industries.
The current S-611 specification documents for review are attached including the quality and information requirements, but it is recommended to use the following link to the IOGP website to download all the relevant documents Valve – Gate to API Spec 600 and API Spec 603 - JIP33 (iogp-jip33.org). The user feedback review itself is open for input via the IOGP website and requires registration on the organisation’s Jama system. If you need more information on registering on Jama please follow this link Specification development - JIP33 (iogp-jip33.org).
Why is it Important?
The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) is the voice of the global upstream industry with 83 members including the 12 major global operators. JIP33 is an IOGP joint industry project aimed at industry wide standardisation and cost reduction of the equipment supply chain.
It is intended that this revised specification will be adopted as standard by IOGP members, affecting the future supply of thousands of valves to the upstream oil and gas industry. Therefore, it is important that BVAA members who are gate valve manufacturers to API 600 and API 603 make their voice heard to ensure that the specifications are effective at meeting the needs of the valve manufacturers as well as those of end users.
The S-611 Gate Valves specifications are extensive and contain numerous revised and additional requirements to those specified in API 600 and API 603 with several appendices covering materials, packing, fugitive emissions testing, inspection and testing requirements, documentation and installation. Now is your opportunity to comment and propose changes to improve the effectiveness of the new revision.
Please submit your comments on these documents to IOGP as soon as possible before 16-09-22 to ensure that the revised specifications reflect the views of the UK valve industry.
