A fun packed afternoon for Special Quality Alloys (SQA) who gathered to celebrate their Queen’s Award for Enterprise success.

The Sheffield based forge and bar stockholder were one of 226 organisations nationally to win the prestigious award this year. With overseas sales growth of 87% over the three-year application period, export sales now make up 44% of the company’s turnover.

To present the award, which was in the category of International Trade, SQA welcomed Prof Dame Hilary Chapman DBE, HM Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire to their site in the Steel City.

The afternoon began with the arrival of the Lord-Lieutenant and followed with a site tour including a demonstration of the forging operations. Colleagues across all areas of the business came together with representatives from the group companies for the presentation of the grant of appointment and speeches.

Shane Higgins, Sales & Marketing, “It was a very proud day for the company and a great way to celebrate the achievement with our friends and colleagues.”

“Dame Hilary was very generous with her time and took the opportunity to chat with many employees throughout the afternoon.”

Key Account Engineer (International), Kirsty Wilson “It’s fantastic that SQA have been recognised for international trade. I have personally felt proud to represent the company when travelling throughout Europe to visit our customers and attend industry events”

Now in its 56th year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the country, with winning businesses able to use to the esteemed Queen’s Awards emblem for the next 5 years.
