Road Map on Hydrogen Standardisation

What is it?
The European Clean Hydrogen Alliance (ECH2A) has recently published a Road Map on Hydrogen Standardization. This is an extensive, 124-page document, which in its own words “… provides a comprehensive overview of standardisation gaps, challenges and needs across the whole hydrogen chain, together with the steps already taken by industry.” It contains recommendations to accelerate the standards development process.
Key actions are identified which include integration, prioritisation, broad stakeholder engagement, call for support (including from the EU commission) and strengthened coordination for the complete standardisation process. See Figure 1.
Why is it important?
The word valve appears 42 times in this document. This is most frequently in a table (A2.1) where standardisation topics have been identified. See Example in Figure 2.
Standards written during this process will affect products for hydrogen service and members’ ability to trade in this market. You are therefore encouraged to participate in the process. If you have not already done so, contact the BVAA office if you have an interest in future products for hydrogen and would like contribute or stay up-to-date in this area.
Continuous Improvement – Did we miss anything?
Hot Spots are intended to alert members and provide a brief overview of new standards, activities or procedures that are being introduced in the industry. If there is key information missing that would be helpful, please let us know so that we can improve our future service.
Please Note: This Hotspot is for information purposes, and we invite comments from BVAA members only. Please also note that at time of publication ballots may be closed. For more information, please contact the Secretariat.
BVAA Members: Did you know we have a hotspot tab on the BVAA website? Head over to www.bvaa.org.uk/login-here.asp and log into the member only area. You then need to select ‘Hotspots’ for the latest.
