Future Leaders Trainer raises funds for Cancer Research
Our FLP trainer, Dr Martin Haigh MBE, has been raising funds for Cancer Research by completing the Ironman distance in one month. This challenge, set up by Cancer research UK, required participants to complete the Ironman triathlon distance of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run, during the month of May.
Martin said: “I finished the 'Ironmay' today (29th May) with a 33.5 mile bike ride. I had completed all my swimming whilst on holiday during the early part of May – which was very pleasant in a heated outdoor pool, then started the running in the middle of the month when I got back home, which left me with 112 miles of cycling to do. I completed four consecutive days of biking along the canal towpath, avoiding the new goslings along the way in order to finish the job.”
Martin has completed the full Ironman distance in one day in the past and commented that, looking back, he did not know how he managed to cover all those disciplines in one day.
