KTH Holts Ltd Excellence in Heat Treatment
Pranesh Latchayya, Managing Director, KTH Holts
BVAA member, KTH Holts, formerly known as Holt Brothers (Halifax), are pleased to announce the appointment of a new Managing Director to take the company forward with fresh ideas and a strengthened focus on future planning.
Pranesh Latchayya (previously the company’s General Manager), took on the new role in October last year, in anticipation of Peter Fletcher’s retirement in 2024. Pranesh has a strong background in the industry and recently completed his MBA, with honorable recognitions, at Manchester Metropolitan University.
KTH Holts has a rich history extending back to 1860. The company has always been technically driven, offering customers the best possible heat treatment service; from advising on material specification, assisting in process design and performing the optimum combination of treatments to deliver the required performance in the finished product.
By achieving this, KTH Holts consistently provides a powerful combination of knowledge, experience and versatility. Their focus remains largely the same and the company’s principles make it the first choice for ultra-lowdistortion work, dimensionally awkward shapes, precision processing of large components and bespoke treatments of advanced materials. KTH Holts are able to apply their extensive expertise and wide process capabilities which are all available at their Halifax site.
KTH Holts’ technical abilities are supported with rigorous quality standards that originated in the 1930s through work with the British Engineering Standards Association – the precursor of BSI. Naturally, KTH Holts have also developed to meet the modern demands of the Nadcap accreditation.
KTH Holts continues to reinvest in their capabilities. In addition to one of the largest pit carburising furnaces operating in the heat treatment industry, it has comprehensive vertical heat treatment facilities for long components. This allows the company to offer an integrated stress relieving and straightening service for steel and superalloy bar and finished shafts. Tolerances are down to 50 microns TIR on ground shafts of up to three metres in length and slightly less on shafts of up to seven metres long.
Some of KTH Holts’ work goes into machinery destined for extreme environments (mining, offshore, Aerospace, Power) where service failure is not an option, with downtime mmeasured in £100,000s per hour. In these circumstances, the company’s customers entrust them to deliver perfection every time. In addition, KTH Holts have long been trusted to step in and deliver results when customers’ in-house capacities fall short due to capacity or task complexity.
In addition to expanding their capabilities, KTH Holts seeks to explore alternative markets to replace the gradual decline
of the mining, oil and gas industries due to climate change.
Pranesh stated; “Although the industry is dealing with challenging times, firstly Covid and now energy costs, the future looks really promising. I am very happy to be in post, and look forward to moving KTH Holts forward, strengthening connections and further developing our service offering”.
