Hot Spot ISO5115:2023- Part-turn valve actuation final approval
What is it?
A new standard ISO 5115:2023 Part-turn valve actuation has now passed the final approval stage and will shortly be published by ISO.
This new standard applies to part-turn actuated valve assemblies comprising valve (e.g. ball valve, butterfly valve, and plug valve), actuator and, when required, a mounting kit supplied as a package. It has been written to provide increased reliability and safety in automated on-off valve operation by defining and standardizing some valve torque sizing factors and nomenclature to be used in actuator selection.
Why is it Important?
This standard applies to all forms of part-turn valve and actuation. The document defines the design considerations necessary for automating valves along with the responsibilities for the information required and tasks to be completed in order to ensure suitable actuator and mounting kit sizing, selection and assembly on the valve.
Amongst other aspects this standard introduces the concept of on-demand correction factors for various applications. This is an important consideration to ensure that an actuator is suitably sized by considering the intended use of the valve in service. Therefore, it is of interest to valve and actuator manufacturers, valve automation suppliers and end users.
