Hot Spot IOGP JIS Material Digital Passport (MDP) Workshop
What is it?
The digital technologies arm of IOGP are developing a novel system aimed at reducing material fraud and enhancing material traceability and poof of origin of components in the industry’s supply chain called Material Digital Passport (MDP).
The intention is that the MDP will leverage component tagging, unique universal identifiers and digital technologies for equipment on a single digital platform to be used by the oil and gas producers and the supply chain. The attached presentation given by IOGP during a recent webinar provides more detailed information on the project.
This initiative has the potential to significantly impact BVAA members supplying into the oil and gas industry from material suppliers through to valve and actuator manufacturers. In recognition of this IOGP are inviting members of the supply chain to participate in a workshop discussing the details of the MDP specification and process scheduled for 6 & 7th February 2024.
If you are interested in participating in the workshop, please either refer to pages 26-28 of the presentation and express your interest directly to IOGP or contact the BVAA secretariat before 20th December so that we can assist.
Why is it Important?
The IOGP Joint Industry Sprint MDP project is intended to implement a digital platform of asset information containing material data down to the level of the major traceable components of a valve. It is envisaged that this would include technical information, specification sheets, certificates of conformity and even the carbon footprint and so it is important that the technology platform is developed to benefit all of the stakeholders in the supply chain.
There is little doubt that this information will be useful throughout the supply chain, but it is also important that the processes used to populate the system do not result in significant costs and duplication throughout the various stages of the supply chain that need to input the data. The best way to ensure that the system is an effective solution is to ensure that stakeholders are consulted in its design and development including the valve and actuator manufacturing supply chain.
If you manufacture material or products for IOGP members it is recommended that you consider being involved in the workshops taking place next February to lend your perspective to the effective design and implementation of this new MDP system.
Continuous Improvement - Did we miss anything?
Hot Spots are intended to alert members and provide a brief overview of new standards, activities or procedures that are being introduced in the industry. If there is key information missing that would be helpful, please let us know so that we can improve our future service.
Please Note: This Hotspot is for information purposes, and we invite comments from BVAA members only. Please also note that at time of publication ballots may be closed. For more information, please contact the Secretariat.
BVAA Members: Did you know we have a hotspot tab on the BVAA website? Head over to www.bvaa.org.uk/login-here.asp and log into the member only area. You then need to select ‘Hotspots’ for the latest.
