Hot Spot EU Launch PED and SPVD Call for Evidence

What is it?

The European Union has launched a call for evidence requesting that stakeholders in the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and Simple Pressure Vessels Directive (SPVD) provide feedback indicating any areas where they consider that the regulations could be updated or improved.

The feedback will be used by the European Commission to assess whether the directives remain fit for purpose and to identify areas where amendments should be made to improve the regulations.

BVAA members can learn more about the call for evidence and provide their feedback by following this link Pressure Equipment Directive & Simple Pressure Vessels Directive - evaluation (europa.eu) to the official Europa website. It is necessary to register on the site before entering the feedback, the closing date for submissions is 20/6/2024.

Why is it Important?

This chance for members to provide feedback on the current PED and SPVD is important because it may influence the future development of these regulations. The EC assessment will take this feedback into account as it considers to what extent the existing regulations remain fit for purpose in terms of:

  • Effectiveness
  • Efficiency
  • Relevance
  • Coherence
  • EU added value

The evaluation will also closely identify if any amendments to support the objectives of the European Green Deal and the digital age are needed.

Following Brexit, recent UK legislation changes in this area have confirmed continuing UK regulation links to the EU PED and SPVD, so it is likely that both European and UK markets will be affected by any future changes to these directives. Consequently, it is important for BVAA members to participate in this Call for Evidence to ensure that the UK industry view is heard.
