The metals specialist Howco continues to see its additive manufacturing service develop at pace following an out of this world development earlier this year. With locations worldwide, Howco manufactures and distributes high performance alloys and components for deployment in the world’s most challenging scenarios, conditions and locations – including outer space!

Part of the Howco Group, Howco Additive Manufacturing’s state-of-the-art metal 3D printing services have rapidly grown in popularity since launching in 2019. Having opened a purpose-built additive manufacturing facility at its site in Houston, Texas (USA), a growing team of experts offer a broad array of services, including printing, reverse engineering and turnkey manufacturing services to clients across the globe.

Recent months have seen the service go (quite literally) interstellar, with precision-engineered components crafted by Howco’s additive manufacturing arm touching down on the surface of the moon as part of the historic Intuitive Machines IM-1 mission Nova-C class lunar landing.

Howco’s contribution to the first human-made landing on the moon in more than 50 years marks an important milestone for its additive manufacturing facilities. Having gone to the moon, its focus now is on continuing to deliver additive manufacturing innovation and excellence to industries as diverse as aerospace and oil and gas.

“Howco leverages cutting-edge metal additive manufacturing techniques and expertise with high-performance alloys such as stainless steel, titanium, and 718 nickel alloy to deliver mission-critical components with unparalleled precision and quality,” explains David Ramirez, Business Development Manager for Howco additive manufacturing services.

“Our advanced 3D printing technology significantly reduces lead times, enabling faster delivery of custom-engineered components to meet project deadlines and market demands. With a proven track record, including providing critical components for the lunar rover, Howco ensures exceptional performance and reliability through rigorous quality assurance processes."

Additive manufacturing solves some of the traditional challenges associated with longstanding manufacturing methods. For the valve industry, that’s especially true, with this additive manufacturing already being put to work to drive improvements in various aspects of valve performance and operation.

Additive manufacturing allows for the creation of complex geometries that are difficult or impossible to achieve with traditional manufacturing methods,” David adds. “This means that valves can be designed with intricate internal passages, optimized flow channels, and custom shapes to enhance performance and efficiency."

With everything from single prototype to large scale production options, Howco’s additive manufacturing solutions perfectly complement its wider service portfolio serving the oil, gas, chemical, and energy sectors.
