Hot Spot Updated Guidance on UKCA-CE Recognition

What is it?

The Department for Business and Trade have updated their guidance on product marking using UKCA/CE following the Safety and Metrology Regulation (Amendment) 2024 coming into force in October 2024. This guidance applies to 21 regulations, including the PED / PE(S)R, providing further clarity on how to use the CE mark to continue to place products on the GB market.

The following links provide more details:

• Policy paper: Continued recognition of EU requirements for conformity assessed marking

• Guidance: Make use of recognition of EU requirements to place products on the GB market

• Guidance: Product regulations and current approaches to product marking

• Guidance: Using harmonised standards for placing CE marked products in Great Britain

Why is it Important?

The guidance confirms earlier announcements by providing more details on how manufacturers can rely on either the CE or the UKCA marks, or a combination of both, in order to place products on the GB market.

The guidance also highlights that the sole use of the CE mark to demonstrate conformance with UK requirements is only permissible if the Harmonised European Standards relied upon are also Designated Standards under the UK regulations which is currently the case for the PED/PE(S)R.
