Hot Spot NWIP Revision of ISO 23632:2021 Design Validation Testing of Valves

What is it?

An ISO new work item proposal to revise ISO 23632:2021 Industrial Valves- Design-validation testing of valves is currently out for ballot through BSI PSE/18/1. This standard currently specifies requirements and acceptance criteria for type testing of metallic butterfly and ball valves used for isolating services in all industrial applications and validates the design over 205 cycles.

The NWI proposes that the standard should be revised to include linear as well as rotary valve types and be more closely aligned with ISO 15848-1 to potentially reduce validation testing costs, the full proposal is attached.

BVAA members with an interest in commenting on this proposal, and potentially forming a Type Testing TEG if the NWIP passes the ISO ballot, are requested to contact the BVAA secretariat by 21/03/25 with their comments.

Why is it Important?

The purpose of this proposed revision to the standard is to make the design-validation test more useful to the end user by allowing the internal and external leakage performance of a wide range of isolation valves to be qualified. It is intended that the extension in scope of the standard and the integration with ISO 15848-1 Fugitive emissions qualification testing will increase the adoption of the document and potentially reduce the cost and time necessary to validate a valve design.

The standardisation of design validation testing to ensure that it is relevant to as many markets and end users as possible is important to valve manufacturers, test laboratories and end users. This new work item proposal provides BVAA members with the opportunity to discuss and directly influence the revision of an existing testing standard by contributing to a BVAA TEG group.

Proposed modification to the current ISO 23632:2021.
